Both Aaron’s mother and father died from AIDs.  He lived with his Grandma for awhile, but she was having a difficult time caring for multiple grandchildren whose parents died from AIDs.  Aaron ended up at Hope Children’s Home, and is thankful to Show Mercy because now he eats, sleeps, and studies well.  His cousins are Miriam and Norah, who also live at the home.

Alice and her four siblings (Robert, Bettie, Samuel & Vanessa) were abandoned by their parents.  The children didn’t know that the parents were leaving – they just left.  Robert would try to find work so that they could eat, and Bettie did all the cooking and cleaning for their home.  Their father came home every few months, and beat Robert – the parents thought it’d be easier if their children just died.  These kids were brave and persistent, and kept pressing on.  Show Mercy became aware of their situation, and took them all in.

Alpha’s father died when she was very young; she doesn’t remember ever seeing him.  She lived with her mother after her father’s death, but her mother was unemployed, and had a very difficult time trying to provide for them.  Her mother died soon after, and Alpha was taken to Hope Children’s Home where she now lives.

Amina’s mother left her with her father, who is a drunkard and drug-user.  Her father abandoned her in the middle of a small swamp.  Someone took her in to look after her, but then a neighbor took her in as a house-girl (slave).  Before being rescued and brought to Hope Children’s Home Amina was beaten daily, and forced to do all the cleaning, laundry, and water-fetching — carrying two 10-gallon water jugs at a time.

Babirye’s father abandoned the family, leaving her mother alone to raise three children.  Babirye has a twin brother named Kato, and a younger brother named Eric.  Her mother ended up leaving the kids, and for a while they stayed alone in their home.  Eventually a male neighbor began helping them, and served as a caretaker to them, but he didn’t give them enough food, and he sometimes beat them.  Now she and her siblings live at Hope Children’s Home.

Both of Barbara’s parents died of AIDs when she was only two years old.  She lived with family friends for awhile, and now she lives at Hope Children’s Home.

Both of Bonny’s parents died of AIDs.  He was living with an old grandfather, until he was unable to provide for Bonny.  He has two cousins who also live at Hope Children’s Home, Teddy and Stephen.

Brenda doesn’t know anything about her mother or her father, and isn’t sure if she has any siblings.  She was abandoned on the streets, where she was found eating dirty things, and didn’t have a place to sleep or bathe.  Brenda found herself a home at Hope, and is grateful to be surrounded by people who really love her.

Brenda’s father died, and her mother decided to remarry.  Her step-father only gave Brenda a little bit of food, beat her, raped her, and chased her to her father’s grave.  Show Mercy rescued her and she now lives at Hope Children’s Home.

Bryan was rejected by his father as soon as his mother gave birth.  His father ended up dying from AIDs, and his mother chose to remarry.  His step-father doesn’t treat Bryan well.

Bryan doesn’t have any siblings.

Christopher’s mother was poisoned and died, and his father passed away in the beginning of 2007.  He and his sister, Violet Basema, were cared for by an older lady in the village.  Unfortunately, the older lady passed away in March 2007, so the kids were left alone to fend for themselves.  An old man was helping feed them from time to time, but they were being abused by other neighbors.

Both of Clarie’s parents died from AIDs, so she lived with her grandfather.  Her grandfather is lame, so he was unable to care for her very well.

Claire doesn’t have any siblings.

David’s father is mentally ill and was never around.  He and his brother Willy Kimbona lived with their mother until she died.  Then they moved in with their grandmother, but she left the boys two years ago.  Now they both live at Hope Children’s Home.

Denis’ father rejected him when he was young.  His mother is lame, so she is unable to care for Denis properly.  Now he lives at Hope Children’s Home.

Both of his parents died many years ago, and Dennis was left without a family.  He was used as a “house boy” (similar to a slave), and he was beaten daily.  Dennis was forced to prepare all of the food for the family, but they never let him have any of it.  Now Dennis lives at Hope Children’s Home and wants to be a pilot when he grows up.

Derick is 6 years old.  His father has died.  His mother is still alive, but is not able to take care of him.   He wants to become a doctor and  likes living at hope because “everything is good for him.”

Douglas doesn’t know his father at all, and his mom is insane.  His mother had been raped several times, which resulted in Dan and a brother.  His mother abandond him so a neighbor tried to help take care of Douglas and his brother for a while.  Now Douglas lives at Hope Children’s Home and is a happy active little guy.

Edward’s mother is lame, and unable to walk.  Since she was unable to care for him properly, Edward was taken to his father.  His father disowned him, and threw him away in a pit latrine where neighbors heard him crying.   They finally were able to rescued Edward and took him to a hospital.  Eventually the government got a hold of Edward and gave him to a church.  The church brought him to Hope Children’s Home where he now lives.

Both of Enoch’s parents died when he was very young – he doesn’t remember them.  His mother used to attend Bethel Church (which is the Church that meets at the Hope compound), until pneumonia took her life.

Enoch’s grandmother took him to Hope Children’s Home so he could be properly cared for.

Fahad isn’t sure where his father is.  He has three other siblings, and he used to live with his mother.  Their family was Muslim, but they converted to Christianity.  Eventually, his mother passed away and the children were left alone.

People in the village thought Fahad’s father would come for the kids when their mother passed away, but he never showed up so he was brought to Hope Children’s Home.

Faith’s father passed away, and her mother is insane.  She was taken from her home and was sold to be a “house-girl” (essentially a slave).  After school each day, she did laundry, washed dishes, fetched water, and cooked – but no one was feeding her.

Pastor Prossy took her away from that situation and brought her to Hope Children’s Home.

Frank’s father died of AIDs, and his mother was left to provide for four children.  She had a difficult time trying to properly care for them all so Frank has come to live at Hope Children’s Home.

Frank’s father was a soldier, and he died fighting the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) in Northern Uganda.  His mother comes to Bethel Church and is unable to support him so he now lives at Hope Children’s Home

Gerald is 12 years old and has a brother Tony and a sister Gladys that live at Hope Children’s Home.  They have the same dad but Tony has a  different mother.  Their father is alive but they don’t know where he is.   Gerald and Gladys have the same mother, but don’t know where she is.

Gladys’ mother deserted her, and her father remarried.  She has two siblings – Gerald and half brother Tony.  Their step-mother didn’t feed them, and she beat them with wires. Their step-mother falsely accused the kids, and lets her own older children beat them.  She is also into witchcraft, and tries to do things to hurt Gladys – she’s made her head swell, and Gladys also said she heard demon voices in her head. Their father came home only on the weekends, and they only got to eat when he came home.  Then he left too and they were brought to Hope Children’s Home.

Grace’s father died, and her mother is mentally ill.  She has one sister, named Maria.  Her mother tried to kill the girls many times.  On one occurrence, she left the girls in the middle of the road, hoping that a car would come and kill them.  Now Grace and her sister live at Hope Children’s Home.

Hakim’s family used to be Muslim, but they converted to Christianity.  His father died – he was murdered by being burned.  His mother attends the Bethel Church, but she is unable to care for him.

Hamim is 18 years old (Born in 1991).  Both his parents and grandparents are deceased.  He had a very hard journey after his parents died (you can view a video on the SMI website).  He now lives at Hope Children’s Home when he is not at school.  He is a very intelligent young man who hopes to become a Construction Engineer.

The whereabouts of Hamza’s mother is unknown, and his father decided to leave him with his grandmother.  His parents were actually never married, so his father rejected the him as his own.

His grandfather actually has two wives, and Hamza was living with his step-grandmother, but she refused to give him food, and was beating him.  A lame neighborhood lady decided to take Hamza into her home but was not able to continue caring for him.  He now lives at Hope Children’s Home.

Ivan’s father died, so he lived with his mother, until she also passed away.  Ivan moved in with an uncle, but his uncle didn’t want him to attend school.  He has been living at Hope Children’s Home since June 2007, and loves it there.

Joann’s mother passed away, and her father is insane.  She was living with her grandmother at an uncle’s house, but the conditions were bad.  Joann was forced to do all of the work at the home, and she was being verbally & physically abused.

John’s mother died, and his father, a drunkard wasn’t around much.  John and his brother, Willy Wamala, were often left alone.  They didn’t have any relatives in the village, so some neighbors sent them to Hope, so that they wouldn’t die of hunger.

Justine’s mother and father are separated.  Her mother is a born-again Christian, but her father doesn’t care for the family.  Justine has 6 siblings and they are very poor – her mother has a difficult time trying to provide for all of them.

Kerespo’s Father is menally ill and his Mother left the family.  An uncle removed him from that home, and took him to live with an 85-year old grandmother. Kerespo’s grandmother discipled him in his faith, but she was unable to take very good care of him.  He now calls Hope Children’s Home his own.

She was living with her older sister, but her sister worked until about 10pm each night – therefore, Prossy was left alone all day long.  She was forced to prepare food for her sister, and to wait up until she got home each night.  Prossy was beaten by her sister and her sister’s boyfriend if she fell asleep too early, or if she does something wrong.  She now lives at Hope Children’s Home.
